Abstract:
A carbon support catalyst is provided in which the activity expected from a catalytic activity determined by evaluating a rotating disk electrode (RDE) is maintained even after a membrane/electrode assembly (MEA) is formed. The carbon support catalyst comprises: fine catalyst particles comprising palladium-containing particles and platinum-containing outermost layers with which at least some of the palladium-containing particles are coated; and a carbon support on which the fine catalyst particles have been supported. The carbon support catalyst is characterized in that the carbon support catalyst applied to a measurement electrode constituted of an electrically conductive material, when examined in an acidic solution, gives a cyclic voltammogram wherein the proportion of the area of the hydrogen adsorption region appearing in a reduction current region to the total area of the hydrogen adsorption region and the hydrogen occlusion region appearing therein is 29-36%.
