Abstract:
[Problem] To reduce the size of a card processing device, while maintaining the reliability of reading and writing of magnetic data from and to a card, to a minimum conveyance-direction length that is structurally required for achieving a card conveyance function. [Solution] Two roller pairs 32A, 32B are arranged at a slightly shorter pitch than a card length. A magnetic head 38 is disposed between the two roller pairs 32A, 32B at a position closer to the inner roller pair 32B. An upstream-side first shutter 24 and a downstream-side second shutter 26 are disposed on the upstream of the two roller pairs 32A, 32B. The second shutter 26 regulates insertion of a card from outside when in a standby mode for card insertion, and the first shutter 24 is operated so as to prevent insertion of the next card or a foreign object when a card 14 is already inside the device and is being processed for writing. In other words, the position of the first shutter 24 is determined such that when the front end of the card 14 has reached the magnetic head 38, the rear end of the card 14 is positioned downstream of the first shutter 24.
