Abstract:
Provided is a manual card reader by which forcible removal of an IC card during data transmission between the card reader and the IC card can be prevented, and by which the occurrence of transmission errors when a lock member has locked the IC card can be prevented. In this card reader, a control unit 33 detects that insertion of the IC card is complete if a card insertion detection mechanism 31 detects that the IC card has been inserted to a contact position where an external contact terminal of the IC card can come into contact with an IC contact spring, and if a lock member detection mechanism 32 detects that the lock member is at a withdrawal prevention position at which the lock member prevents withdrawal of the card.
