Abstract:
Provided is a motor-conveyed card reader that detects removal of a card in the course of insertion thereof. A card 2 is inserted into an insertion opening S. A gate sensor 50 detects the insertion of the card 2 into the insertion opening S. The card 2 inserted from the insertion opening S is conveyed on a conveyance path C. A conveyance unit includes a drive unit 20, such as a motor, and conveys the card 2 in the conveyance path C. A conveyance detection sensor detects the card 2 being conveyed on the conveyance path C. If the conveyance detection sensor changes from off to on to off with the gate sensor 50 being in an on-state, a control unit 10 causes the drive unit 20 to rotate in a first direction only for a specific time and then in a second direction only for a specific time. If the load is smaller when the drive unit 20 is rotated in a direction in which the card 2 moves in the direction of the insertion opening S than when rotated in the opposite direction, the control unit 10 determines that the card 2 has been removed in the course of insertion.
