Abstract:
The present invention provides a card reader with which it is possible to add an antenna or a control circuit for contactless communication relatively easily. When contactless communication with a card is performed in a card reader 100: a magnetic demodulation circuit 33 that is not used during contactless communication, a position detection circuit 34, etc., are provided to a first circuit board 3, which is provided with an antenna 30 for contactless communication, an antenna circuit 31, and a control circuit 32 for contactless communication; and a main control circuit 41 used during contact communication is provided to a second circuit board 4, which is separate from the first circuit board 3. Even in such circumstances, contact communication or position detection using a magnetic head 5 is not carried out when performing contactless communication; therefore, the problem of other functions being impaired by contactless communication will tend not to arise.
