Abstract:

The present invention provides a card reader which, via a simple structure, is capable of detecting a skimming magnetic head attached to the front of a card insertion member provided with a card slot and a skimming magnetic head attached to the slope of a card slot. The card reader is provided with: a card insertion member 8 that is equipped with a card slot 3; and a light emitting element 9 and a light receiving element for detecting a foreign object attached to the card insertion member 8. The lower surface of the card slot 3 forms a slope 3a that inclines downward toward the front. Light emitted from the light emitting element 9 enters the slope 3a from the back and bottom side and is refracted by and emitted from the slope 3a at least toward the front. The light receiving element receives light emitted from the light emitting element 9 and reflected by the front and upper side of the slope 3a and light emitted from the light emitting element 9 and reflected by the front of the card insertion member 8.
