Abstract:
Provided is a card reader, wherein user operability can be improved even when biometric authentication, such as fingerprint authentication, is performed after a card is inserted into the card reader. A card reader 1 is provided with: a front cover 6 in which an insertion hole 3 for a card 2 is formed; a main body frame 5 in which a card movement path is formed; and a biometric authentication sensor 7 for acquiring a user's biometric authentication data from the fingertips of the user using the card reader 1. A recess part 6a is formed in the front cover 6 to allow the user to grip a front end portion of the card 2 when inserting the card 2 into the insertion hole 3 and removing the card 2 from the insertion hole 3, and the recess part 6a is recessed from the front surface of the front cover 6 toward the rear side thereof. The biometric authentication sensor 7 is mounted on the side surface 6c of the recess part 6a in the thickness direction of the card 2.
