Abstract:
In a carton loading machine which receives load items (38) from an infeed conveyor (36) and which has a carton (48) loading station (50) in which a plurality of load items (38) are loaded simultaneously into a carton (48), improvement of a load accumulator (10). The load accumulator (10) is located between the infeed conveyor (36) and the carton loading station (50) of the carton loading machine (20) and is arranged to admit load items (38) into each of the single load transporting compartments (16) in turn as each of the successive compartments (16) are located in the input station (18). The discharge station (20) located with a group of at least two load transporting compartments (16) opening into the carton loading station (20) of the carton loading machine (50). A transfer mechanism (10) is mounted for movement between the discharge station (20) and the carton loading station (50) and is operable to transfer load items (38) from the group of load transporting compartments (16) located in the discharge station (20) into the carton loading station (50) to load a carton (48) located therein in use.
