Abstract:
[Problem] The purpose of the present invention is to provide a catalyst-carrying substrate with which it is possible to (1) enhance purification performance, (2) suppress any increase in pressure loss, and (3) suppress any breakage in an interface portion between an opening region and a non-opening region. [Solution] A catalyst-carrying substrate that is configured from a plurality of honeycomb bodies and used in order to purify exhaust gas from a vehicle, the catalyst-carrying substrate characterized in that: the plurality of honeycomb bodies are disposed lined up such that the axes of the honeycomb bodies substantially coincide; numerous through-holes are formed in a metal foil of a first honeycomb body disposed at the position nearest to the exhaust-gas-inlet side, among the plurality of honeycomb bodies; no through-holes are formed in metal foils of the remaining honeycomb bodies; when the first honeycomb body is divided into regions in the axial direction including an opening region in which the through-holes are formed, a first non-opening region extending from an exhaust-gas-inlet-side end portion of the opening region to an exhaust-gas-inlet-side edge portion of the first honeycomb body, and a second non-opening region extending from an exhaust-gas-outlet-side end portion of the opening region to an exhaust-gas-outlet-side edge portion of the first honeycomb body, the axial-direction length of the first non-opening region is 2-10 mm inclusive, and the axial-direction length of the second non-opening region is 10 mm or less; the first honeycomb body and a second honeycomb body are separated from one another in the axial direction, where the second honeycomb body is defined as the honeycomb body adjacent to the first honeycomb body in the axial direction; the axial-direction separation distance between the first and second honeycomb bodies is 2-20 mm inclusive; and the proportion of the axial-direction length of the opening region to the sum of the axial-direction lengths of the plurality of honeycomb bodies is 20-80% inclusive.
