Abstract:

A catalyst for the catalytic partial oxidation of hydrocarbons is provided which has high thermal shock resistance. Also provided is a process for producing synthesis gas with this catalyst. The catalyst for the catalytic partial oxidation of hydrocarbons is for use in producing synthesis gas comprising carbon monoxide and hydrogen by adding oxygen and steam to a raw hydrocarbon material and catalytically partially oxidizing the raw hydrocarbon material. The catalyst comprises a support constituted of an inorganic oxide and an active metal supported thereon. The support has pores having a pore diameter in the first range of 0.1 to 1.0 µm, excluding 1.0 µm, in a total volume amount which is at least 32% of the overall pore volume, and has pores having a pore diameter in the second range of 1.0 to 10 µm in a total volume amount which is at least 14% of the overall pore volume.
