Abstract:
A catalyst for exhaust gas purification which does not contain a large amount of nickel and, despite this, inhibits hydrogen sulfide emission and has sufficient performance in exhaust gas purification. The catalyst (1) for exhaust gas purification is equipped with a base (10) having one or more through-holes through which an exhaust gas flows and a catalyst layer (20) supported on the base (10) and containing an oxygen storage material, and includes a first part (100), to which the exhaust gas is supplied, and a second part (200), to which the exhaust gas having passed through the first part is supplied. The catalyst layer (20) includes, in the first part (100), a multilayer structure composed of a first catalyst layer (20A) containing platinum and/or palladium and a second catalyst layer (20B) containing rhodium, and further includes, in the second part (200), a third catalyst layer (20C) containing rhodium. The second part (200) contains the oxygen storage material in a smaller amount per unit volume than the first part (100).
