Abstract:
Disclosed is a catalyst which is used for removing impurities in a gas such as CO in H2 gas through oxidation. In the catalyst, a noble metal is supported by the surface of a carrier containing a metal oxide and the carrier surface loaded with the noble metal is coated with a metal oxide, so that no peak ascribed to the noble metal is substantially detected in an analysis by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Preferable examples of such a catalyst may include a catalyst wherein Pt or Au is supported by the surface of a TiO2 carrier and the surface loaded with Pt is covered with Fe2O3.
