Abstract:
Disclosed is a partial oxidation catalyst for modifying hydrocarbons which has
a layer of a catalyst component containing a platinum group element and a fire-resistant inorganic
oxide, which layer is coated over a molded carrier. The partial oxidation catalyst
is characterized in that the platinum group element content in the outer portion
of the coating layer is substantially higher than that in the inner portion of
the coating layer. Also disclosed is a method for producing a hydrogen-containing gas
from a hydrocarbon by using such a catalyst. The catalyst exhibits high activity and
long-term durability even with low platinum group element content.
