Abstract:
It is intended to provide a catalyst having a long life and being usable as an economically favorable catalyst in a system of synthesizing a carboxylic acid ester from an aldehyde compound typified by Tishchenko reaction. It is also intended to provide a process for producing a carboxylic acid using the catalyst. These objects can be achieved based on a finding that a solid obtained by bringing silica into contact with an aluminum alkoxide is highly useful as a catalyst in producing a carboxylic acid ester by dimerizing an aldehyde compound.
