Abstract:

Disclosed is a catalyst for use in the purification of an exhaust gas, which can prevent the competitive adsorption of HC, CO and NOx and has such a structure that a NOx storage/reduction catalyst can be utilized efficiently. The catalyst is characterized in that both at least one NOx storage material selected from alkali metals and alkali earth metals and a NOx storage/reduction catalyst layer containing Pt and/or Rh are provided on a base material and an oxidation catalyst layer carrying Pt and/or Pd therein is provided on the NOx storage/reduction catalyst layer.
