Abstract:
A catalyst structure is obtained by cutting a catalyst element (1) coated with a catalytically active component in such a manner that protuberant portions (2) are inclined at an angle of 45� to the side edge (1a) of the catalyst element having a rectangular planar shape, and laminating a plurality of such catalyst elements (1) into a catalyst frame while alternately reversing the face and back of the catalyst elements (1), and a passage of gas to be treated is defined so that the protuberant portions (2) of the catalyst elements (1) describe an angle of 0 to 90� to the gas flow (6). When the catalyst structure comprising the catalyst elements (1) coated with a denitrification catalyst is disposed in the exhaust gas flow passage, for example, the protuberant portions (2) of the catalyst element (1) operate as weirs and a turbulent flow occurs on the back flow side of the protuberant portions (2), so that ammonia and NOx in the exhaust gas are more likely to come into contact with the catalyst. Further, as the gas flow (6) is disturbed, the boundary film on the catalyst surface becomes thinner, so that diffusion of ammonia and NOx becomes easier and catalytic activity can be drastically improved. In this way, catalyst performance can be effectively exhibited without much lowering the pressure loss of the gas flow.
