Title:
CATALYST FOR USE IN OBTAINING SULPHUR BY THE CLAUS PROCESS AND A PROCESS FOR MANUFACTURING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1997/004867
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The proposed catalyst for obtaining sulphur by the Claus process consists of calcium compounds present in quantities of 1.0-35 wt.% and a solid solution of titanium oxide and one or more oxides of metals selected from the group comprising niobium, tantalium and the rare-earth metals (up to 100 wt.%). The proposed method of manufacturing the catalyst for use in obtaining sulphur by the Claus process involves treating titanium tetrachloride with an aqueous solution or suspension of calcium hydroxide and carrying out the proposed process under conditions conducive to the production of a catalyst of the desired composition.
