Provided are a catheter and method for producing a catheter which make it possible to maintain a favorable bonding strength of resin materials of different hardnesses on a distal side and proximal side, and possible to effectively prevent peeling of a junction. An inner catheter (30) is disposed in a lumen of a guiding catheter (20) so as to be able to be pulled out, and is used along with the guiding catheter (20). The inner catheter (30) includes a distal tubular section (71) which is made of resin and located on a distal side, and a proximal tubular section (72) which is made of resin of a greater hardness than that of the distal tubular section (71) and which has a distal-side end section that is joined to a proximal-side end section of the distal tubular section (71). The distal-side end section of the proximal tubular section (72) includes: a taper section (75) that gradually decreases in outer diameter toward the distal side and is located on the radially inward side of the distal tubular section (71); and a coverage section (76) that protrudes out toward the distal side from a proximal-side site of the taper section (75) and surrounds the radially outward side of the proximal-side end section of the distal tubular section (71). The distal tubular section (71) includes a wedge section (77) that is sandwiched between the taper section (75) and the coverage section (76).
