Abstract:
Provided is a catheter having a novel structure, the catheter being configured so that the distal end portion thereof can be more accurately and stably bent, thereby enabling the distal end to be easily controlled to face a desired direction. A control wire (40) is inserted through a control wire lumen (38) provided in a flexible catheter body (12), the distal end of the control wire (40) is affixed to the distal end of the catheter body (12), and an opening (64) through which the control wire (40) is permitted to protrude sideways is provided in the catheter body (12). When subjected to axial force, the control wire (40) protrudes sideways through the opening (64) to apply bending force to the distal end of the catheter body (12) through the control wire (40), thereby deforming and bending the distal end portion of the catheter body (12). Further, a controller (14) for setting the amount of operation of the control wire (40) in the push-in direction and pull-out direction thereof is provided at the proximal end of the catheter body (12).
