Abstract:
The present invention provides: a cation exchange resin which is capable of producing a cation exchange membrane that has excellent electrical characteristics (cation conductivity) and chemical characteristics (gas permeability and water retainability), an electrolyte membrane, a binder for forming an electrode catalyst layer, and a battery electrode catalyst layer; a cation exchange membrane, an electrolyte membrane and a binder for forming an electrode catalyst layer, each of which is formed of this cation exchange resin; and a battery electrode catalyst layer which is formed of this binder for forming an electrode catalyst layer. For example, the present invention uses a cation exchange resin wherein a hydrophobic unit in which a divalent hydrophobic group containing a bisphenol residue that has an alicyclic structure is repeated via a carbon-carbon bond, a hydrophobic unit in which a divalent hydrophobic group composed of a plurality of aromatic rings that are bonded to each other via a divalent fluorine-containing hydrocarbon group is repeated via a carbon-carbon bond, and a hydrophilic unit which has an aromatic ring that is bonded to a cation exchange group-containing group, are bonded to each other via a carbon-carbon bond.
