Abstract:
Provided is a cell observation device capable of acquiring a captured image in which defocusing is suppressed even in a divided region affected by meniscus. This cell observation device comprises: a disposition unit on which a cell culture vessel D containing a cell is disposed as an object to be observed; an image formation optical system that forms an observed image of the object to be observed; a movement unit that moves the disposition unit and/or the image formation optical system from a movement start position to a movement end position along the optical axis direction of the image formation optical system; an imaging unit that captures a plurality of observed images by an imaging element during the movement in the optical axis direction; an evaluation unit 513 that evaluates the degrees of brightness value distribution of the captured plurality of captured images; and a selection unit 514 that selects, as a focused image, a captured image having the highest degree of brightness value distribution evaluated by the evaluation unit 513. The selection unit 514 selects the focused image only according to the degree of brightness value distribution of a predetermined brightness value or less.
