Abstract:

Provided are: a composition material which contains carboxymethyl cellulose as a major component, and can stably exhibit its chemical characteristics and electrochemical characteristics for a long period of time for the purpose of utilization of biomass resources; and a metal-air proton cell using the material. As the composition material, a composition material having superior storage stability is obtained by mixing ammonium hydrogen carbonate with wet granules of an acid-type carboxymethyl cellulose deposited by adding a crude carboxymethyl cellulose salt into sulfuric-acid acid water. In addition, a coating material or ink having the capability to form a flexible film is obtained by mixing a polyhydric alcohol and/or fat or oil with the composition material. This composition is applied to a carbon fiber cloth, dried, and cured, and the resultant structure is used as a positive electrode. The positive electrode is disposed so as to face a negative electrode metal plate. An acid electrolyte is poured therein to provide an arrangement for generating electricity. Thus obtained is a metal-air proton cell which can be regarded as a fuel cell in which an organic solid electrolyte functions.
