Abstract:
A cemented carbide which comprises a first hard phase, a second hard phase and a binder phase, wherein: the first hard phase is composed of tungsten carbide particles; the second hard phase is composed of carbide particles that contain, as a constituent element, niobium or tantalum; the binder phase contains, as constituent elements, cobalt, nickel and chromium; at least some of the carbide particles additionally contain tungsten as a constituent element; and if A vol% is the volume fraction of the second hard phase relative to the cemented carbide and B vol% is the volume fraction of the total of the elemental niobium and the elemental tantalum relative to the cemented carbide, the ratio of A to B, namely A/B is more than 1.2.
