Title:
CENTER DRIVEN PRESSURE CLAMPED PUMP
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO2002077416
Kind Code:
A3
Abstract:
The problem of aligning the drive shaft (16) of a pressure clamped pump (10) with the output shaft (89) of a drive motor (80) in a hydraulic apparatus (70) is solved through the use of pressure clamped pump (10) having a housing (12) adapted for installation into a cavity (74) and a drive shaft (16) coincident with the center (14) of the housing (12). The hydraulic apparatus (70) may include piloting features (92, 93) configured to facilitate alignment of the pump drive shaft (16) with the output shaft (89) of a motor (80) used to drive the pump (10). The pump (10) may include elements (25) for retaining the drive shaft (16) within the pump (10), and may also include a larger and less restricted inlet (48) than could be achieved in prior pressure clamped pumps. The pump (10) may include pumping means (23) in the form of a gear pump having a single primary gear (34) driving a single secondary gear (38). The pumping means (23) may alternatively be a gear pump having a single primary gear (34) driving two or more secondary gears (38). Where the pumping means (23) includes two or more secondary gears (38), the drive shaft (16) may be coincident with the center (14) of the housing (12). The primary gear (34) may also have a prime number of teeth to reduce wear.
