Abstract:
Provided is a ceramic honeycomb body fabrication method, for a ceramic honeycomb body which has a plurality of ventilation holes which are surrounded by partition walls and extend in an axial direction, and an external circumference part is machined for removal. The ceramic honeycomb body fabrication method comprises a step of retaining a ceramic honeycomb body rotatably upon a primary axis of a lathe, rotating the ceramic honeycomb body with the primary axis as a center thereof, and machining for removal an external circumference part of the ceramic honeycomb body with an instrument. The lathe comprises, positioned upon the primary axis, a first anchoring jig, and a second anchoring jig which approximately faces the first anchoring jig. The first and second anchoring jigs further comprise: contact parts on the end parts of the respectively facing sides thereof, having external shapes which are smaller than the external shapes of the end faces of the ceramic honeycomb body; and approximately flat contact faces which are formed on the end faces of the contact parts, and which are orthogonal to the primary axis. Retaining the ceramic honeycomb body is carried out by bringing the contact faces of the first and second jigs into contact with both of the respective end faces of the ceramic honeycomb body such that the central axis of the ceramic honeycomb body approximately matches the primary axis of the lathe, and pressing the ceramic honeycomb body with both of the end faces thereof.
