Abstract:
A ceramic honeycomb structural body characterized by being provided with a plurality of honeycomb segments which include a plurality of flow passages that are divided by separating walls of a porous material and that penetrate through the honeycomb segments in an axial direction, and in which plugging portions are disposed in end portions of the flow passages, and a bonding material layer for bonding outer walls of the plurality of honeycomb segments together, wherein: the bonding material layer includes silicon carbide particles serving as a rib material, and a bonding phase for bonding the silicon carbide particles; the bonding phase includes at least a cordierite phase and a spinel phase; a molar ratio M1 [=cordierite phase/(cordierite phase+spinel phase)] of the cordierite phase is at least equal to 0.50 and less than 1.0; and the (cordierite phase+spinel phase) content in the bonding phase is at least 50% by mass.
