Abstract:
Provided is a cermet tool capable of reducing the surface roughness of a material to be cut and achieving excellent resistance to wear, fracture, and chipping, and a prolonged tool life. This cermet tool is formed from 75-95 mass% of a hard phase and 5-25 mass% of a binding phase. The hard phase comprises: a first hard phase that has a core part made of (Ti, Nb, Mo) (C, N) and a peripheral part made of (Ti, Nb, Mo, W) (C, N) or (Ti, Nb, Mo, W, Zr) (C, N); a second hard phase that has a core part and a peripheral part that are both made of (Ti, Nb, Mo, W) (C, N) or (Ti, Nb, Mo, W, Zr) (C, N); and a third hard phase that is made of (Ti, Nb, Mo) (C, N). In the case of this cermet tool, the relationship (Nbs/Nbi) between the maximum quantity of Nb (Nbs) in the surface region of the cermet tool and the quantity of Nb (Nbi) contained the interior region thereof is 0.8-1.2, the relationship (Ws/Wi) between the maximum quantity of (Ws) in the surface region and the quantity of W (Wi) contained in the interior region is 1.0-1.5, and the area percentages (A1, A2, A3) of the respective hard phases are 75-95 area% for A1, 4-24 area% for A2, and 1-24 area% for A3.
