Abstract:
A chain, wherein the extent of bending of the chain is stably restricted by a simple structure and wherein fixed members are automatically locked and unlocked. A chain formed by connecting plate members to each other is provided with a slackening conveying device having drive sprockets and interlocked sprockets which are arranged at intervals determined so that the intervals between conveying pins of the chain are reduced, and the slackening conveying applies slack to the tension of the chain at corners of the chain. The plate members each have a connecting pin and a slit into which the connecting pin is slidably inserted. Each slit comprises a large width section and a small width section. The plate members are fixed to each other when the connecting pins slide in the longitudinal direction of the slits and fit in the small width sections. When the tension between the plate members is slackened by the slackening conveying device to cause the connecting pins to slide in the opposite longitudinal direction and fit in the large width sections, the fixation between the plate members is removed to allow the plate members to bend freely.
