Abstract:
Provided is a chain tensioner in which the decrease in the damper effect immediately after the engine is restarted can be effectively suppressed, and in which an assist spring is not necessary. A chain tensioner having: a plunger (10) slidably inserted into a cylinder (9); a check valve (13) incorporated into the cylinder (9); a pressure chamber (14) formed between the check valve (13) and the plunger (10); and an oil supply channel (15) for introducing working oil via the check valve (13) into the pressure chamber (14), wherein a configuration is employed in which the check valve (13) has a valve spring (22) for urging a valve body thereof (21) from an open-valve position towards a closed-valve position, and the oil supply channel (15) comprises an oil introduction hole (16) for introducing the working oil from the exterior of the cylinder (9), and a reservoir chamber (17) formed adjacent to the upstream side of the check valve (13).
