Abstract:
In the present invention, a chair (1) and a backrest (30) for the chair are, in the regions of side-edge support parts (32) above the parts where fitting holes (33) are formed, provided with: thin-walled backplate extension parts (51) that continue to the front surface of a backplate part (31), thinned sections being formed in the outside portions, as viewed in the width direction of the backrest, on the rear side; and reinforcing ribs (52) projecting rearward from the inside end parts, as viewed in the width direction of the backrest, of the backplate extension parts (51). The reinforcing ribs (52) are connected to the parts where the fitting holes (33) are formed, said ribs (52) extending substantially in the vertical direction, and gradually increasing in cross-sectional area toward the bottom end. In the present invention, furthermore, the chair (1a, 101, 201) and the backrest (30) for the chair are provided with a plate-shaped backplate part (31) for receiving the load of a seated person, and a pair of side-edge support parts (32) formed integrally with a pair of facing sides of the backplate part (31), the side-edge support parts functioning as strengthening members. A plurality of openings (34) for making it easier for the backplate part (31) to deform are formed in the backplate part (31). A curved part (35) that curves away from the backplate extends from one end of the backplate part (31). The openings (34) in the backplate part (31) formed in the vicinity of the curved part (35) are shaped as slots aligned with the direction of extension of the side-edge support parts (32), and are formed at least in the range spanning the curved part (35).
