Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1989/007410
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
Chair with metallic tubular frame having two-piece assembly and interchangeable back and seat panels comprising: a first tubular frame substantially "U" angled (B), with the arc forming the chair back and arms, tilted upwards and with the respective extremities angled downwards and forwards thus constituting front chair legs; a second tubular frame substantially "U" angled (B'), with the front arc lying approximately horizontal and forming the seat structure with the respective extremities angled downwards and backwards thus forming the back legs, having a width which can be inserted into the first one, the second frame (B') being insertable in the first one (B) with opposed "U" plan forking, and crossing at a median point at side elevation; a back panel (D) fixed/fixable in said arc of said first frame (B); a seat panel (D') fixed/fixable above said arc of said second frame (B') having a width which can be inserted in said first frame (B); a pair of side spacing discs (A) with opposed containing seats for the respective tubular lengths of said frame (B-B') in the respective crossing areas, combined with clamping means with passing axial transverse locking screw (C).

Description:
Chair with metallic tubular frame having two-piece assembly an d interchangeable back and seat panels

The subject of the present invention is a chair with a metallic tubular frame having two-piece assembly and interchangeable seat and back panels.

In the present state of art, chairs with a metallic tubular frame having two-piece assembly and interchangeable seat and back panels are known.

There are various constructional techniques, shapes of the frame parts which form the chair and also respective systems of assembly. However, it is difficult to find that these types of chairs simultaneously combine the characteristics of simplicity and low costs, reliability, sturdiness, safety, long life and have assembly systems (assembly and disassembly) which are simple and easily carried out by all users, with the further possibility of being able to change the exterior form according to the requirements of different ambients, without the necessity of appreciable increases in production costs.

This and other scopes are achieved with the present invention as per the characteristics given in the attached claims, solving the problems exposed by means of a chair with a metallic tubular frame having two-piece assembly and interchangeable seat and back panels, characterized by the fact that it comprises:

1 - a first tubular frame substantially "U" shaped, with a back arc

2 forming seat back and arms, tilted upwards with the respective

3 angled extremities angled downwards and forwards thus

4 constituting front chair legs,

5 - a second tubular frame substantially "U" angled, with a front arc

6 lying approximately horizontal and forming the seat structure, the

7 respective extremities being angled downwards and backwards

8 thus forming back legs, having a width which can be inserted into

9 the first one with opposed "TJ" plan forking, and crossing at a

I 0 median point at side elevation,

I I - a back panel, fixed/fixable in said arc of said first frame;

1 2 - a seat panel, fixed/fixable above said arc of said second frame,

1 3 and having a width which can be inserted in said first frame;

1 4 - a pair of side spacing discs with opposed containing seats for the

1 5 respective tubular lengths of the said frames in the respective

1 6 crossing areas, combined with clamping means with passing axial

1 7 transverse locking screw.

1 8 The respective spacer advantageously has a form with two

1 9 opposed seats which are crossed by means of parallel risers on

2 0 both sides, angled according to the cross positioning of the tubular 2 1 lengths.

22 The advantages obtained with these characteristics consist

2 3 essentially in that the jointing system with said spacer, in addition 24 to making the clamping system extremely simple, also results in 2 5 low costs and maximum security, thus simplifying the entire 26 constructional system and allowing bulk to be reduced to a 27 minimum when disassembled. The back and seat panels can be 2 8 interchanged thus allowing a considerable final diversification of 2 9 the chair according to the particular settings desired.

These, and other advantages, will appear in the following detailed description of the preferential solutions for realization together with the attached drawings, the execution details of which are not to be held as limiting but only as examples. Figures 1, 1A, 2 A give a schematic representation of the assembled chair, respectively a side elevation, a front view (partial) and as seen from above (partial). Figures 2, 3 give a front and side view of a spacer disc. Figure 4 gives a partial view of the fixing system of two portions of crossed frame by means of said spacer disc.

With reference to the figures, it can be seen that the chair comprises: - a first tubular frame substantially "U" angled (B), with a back arc forming the chair back and arms, tilted upwards and with the respective extremities angled downwards and forwards thus constituting the front chair legs, - a second tubular frame substantially "U" angled (B'), with a front arc lying approximately horizontal and forming the seat structure with the respective extremities angled downwards and backwards thus forming the back legs, having a width which can be inserted into the first one, the second frame (B') being insertable in the first one (B) with opposed "U" plan forking, and crossing at a median point at side elevation; - a back panel (D) fixed/fixable in said arc of said first frame (B); - a seat panel (D') fixed/fixable above said arc of said second frame (B τ ) having a width which can be inserted in said first frame (B);

- a pair of side spacer discs (A) with opposed containing seats for the respective tubular lengths of said frames (B-B') in the respective crossing areas, combined with clamping means with passing axial transverse locking screw (C). It can be seen that the respective spacer (A) advantageously has a form with two opposed seats which are crossed by means of parallel risers on both sides (1- )» angled according to the cross positioning of the tubular lengths (B,B').
