Abstract:
In order to rapidly input characters on a touch panel, a mobile phone terminal (character input device) (1) is provided with a touch panel (2) for detecting an operation on a display surface and a control unit (10) for displaying a plurality of buttons upon the display surface of the touch panel (2). The control unit (10), upon detection by the touch panel (2) of an operation in which tactile contact begins at a first position upon the touch panel (2) and the tactile contact continues until a second position upon the touch panel (2), displays a character string, which is acquired by performing prediction processing or conversion processing on a character string including characters corresponding to the buttons displayed along the trace connecting the positions where contact was detected over the interval of continuous contact from the start of contact at the first position until the second position was reached, at a predetermined region upon the touch panel (2) as a candidate for the character string input by the operation.
