Abstract:
The purpose of the present invention is to provide a character input device with which key input can be made from both surfaces without having an operator move his/her entire hand, whether using one hand or both hands. This character input device comprises: a first keyboard (70a) on which a plurality of character inputting keys are arranged; and a second keyboard (70b) on which a plurality of character inputting keys different from said character inputting keys are arranged. Each character input key (71) arranged on the first keyboard (70a) and/or each character input key (71) arranged on the second keyboard (70b) is associated with a plurality of input switches (21) each corresponding to a different key input operation direction. By performing input operations in different directions on one character input key (71) to activate different input switches (21), inputting of different characters is possible without operating character input keys (71) other than said character input key (71). The key arrangement surface of the first keyboard (70a) and the key arrangement surface of the second keyboard (70b) are arranged back-to-back on the front and back surfaces.
