[Problem] To provide a charging device for an electric vehicle that can be employed in parking lots of a relatively small size and that is capable of exchanging power with other charging devices of the same type. [Solution] A charging device (1) that is connected via an electrical cable with another charging device so as to be capable of exchanging power with the other charging device, and that comprises: a built-in secondary battery (12) for charging a vehicle battery; an electrical path opening/closing means (13) that opens and closes a first electrical path between the built-in secondary battery and a connector for charging an electric vehicle, and that opens and closes a second electrical path between the built-in secondary battery of another charging device and the connector for charging an electric vehicle; and a control means that, if it is determined when commencing rapid charging according to a command from the electric vehicle side that the amount of power remaining in the internal second battery of the charging device (1) is not sufficient, drives the electrical path opening/closing means in order to close the first electrical path and open the second electrical path, and performs control of rapid charging of the vehicle battery from the secondary battery of the other charging device via the connector for charging an electric vehicle.
