Abstract:
Provided is a charging roll for electrophotographic equipment that is excellent in uniformity of discharge characteristics. A charging roll 10 has an elastic layer 14 having an outer peripheral surface provided with a groove portion 22 that spirals regularly along the axial direction. The groove portion 22 has a groove width w of 4-280 μm inclusive and a groove depth d of 2-30 μm inclusive. An area a of a bottom surface 221 of the groove portion 22 and an area b of a flat surface portion 24 of the outer peripheral surface of the elastic layer 14 have a surface area ratio a/b of 0.3-2.4 inclusive. A surface layer 16 includes a binder polymer 16a and roughness-forming particles 18, and the roughness-forming particles 18 are disposed on the flat surface portion 24 and on the groove portion 22. A part of the surface layer 16 that falls within a region M above the groove portion 22 has a surface roughness Rz of 2-16 μm inclusive, and the entire surface layer 16 has a surface roughness Rz of 5-26 μm inclusive. A part of the binder polymer 16a that covers a roughness-forming particle 18a on the groove portion 22 has a thickness t1 larger than a thickness t2 of a part of the binder polymer 16a that covers a roughness-forming particle 18b on the flat surface portion 24.
