Abstract:
Disclosed is a chaser (1) that improves the quality of the finished surface of a screw. This chaser (1) has a rake face (2) and a flank face (3) and in the intersecting ridge therebetween, when looking from the aforementioned rake face (2), are formed screw cutting blades (4) of projecting, nearly trapezoidal shapes; and the aforementioned screw cutting blades (4) comprise a group of at least a finishing blade (F), and a rough blade (R1), which has a screw cutting blade (4) with a smaller ridge shape than said finishing blade (F). The aforementioned screw cutting blades (4) each have a frontal cutting edge (5), which is formed by the tip edge of the upper area of said projecting, nearly trapezoidal shapes, a bottom cutting edge (7), which is formed by the lower area in between the neighboring aforementioned screw cutting blades (4), and a pair of side cutting edges (6), which stretch from the aforementioned upper area on both ends toward the aforementioned lower areas. Of the aforementioned frontal cutting edges (5), at least the aforementioned rough blade (R1) is formed with linear honing (10) or compound honing, including linear honing (10) and round honing (11), along the frontal cutting edge. The linear honing (10), when seen at a right angle cross section from the frontal cutting edge (5), intersects the aforementioned rake face (2) at an angle (α) that is at least 60° and less than 90°.
