Abstract:
The invention provides chelating fibers bearing chelate-forming functional groups in the molecule, which are improved in the uptake efficiency for metal ions; and a process for water treatment. The invention discloses chelating fibers which are enhanced in the uptake efficiency for metal ions by converting the acid-type chelate-forming functional groups into groups of alkali metal salt or ammonium salt type; and a process for treatment of metal ion containing water with a chelating fiber bearing acid-type chelate-forming functional groups in the molecule, wherein the acid-type functional groups are converted into groups of alkali metal salt or ammonium salt type prior to the contact thereof with metal ion containing water to thereby attain an enhanced uptake efficiency for metal ions.
