Abstract:
Disclosed is a chelating resin which is obtained by introducing a compound having a polyethyleneimine skeleton into a polymer carrier that has a reactive functional group, and then carboxymethylating the resulting material using halogenated acetic acid in an amount of 1.0-3.0 times the molar amount of nitrogen contained in the compound having a polyethyleneimine skeleton that has been introduced into the polymer carrier. The chelating resin is not easily hampered by alkaline earth metals. Consequently, the chelating resin is capable of removing heavy metals and highly selectively capturing valuable heavy metals from a solution to be treated such as industrial wastewater, service water, environmental water, food and chemicals, without being hampered by alkaline earth metals which are present in the solution to be treated in a large amount.
