Title:
CHILD TAMPER-PROOF SAFETY SEAT BELT LOCKING DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/1993/020728
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The main purpose of the device is to prevent young children approximately 2-6 years in age or more from unlocking their seat belts when required for their safety. A pressure release button on the device activates the release button on the existing seat belt when pressure is applied with one's thumb. The pressure release button of the device sits at top and straddles the seat belt release button and when in place acts as a stop-guard for the child from unlocking the seat belt when required for use. Only an adult or a young child responsible enough to know and understand when it is required will be able to press and release the seat belt for unlocking when not in use.

CLAIM
1. THE EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION IN WHICH AN EXCLUSIVE PROPERTY OR PRIVILEGE IS CLAIMED ARE AS FOLLOWS: A CHILD TAMPERPROOF SAFETY SEAT BELT LOCKING DEVICE when attached to the Seat Belt Release Button Housing Harness of a passenger vehicle is a simple, practical, inexpensive and easy to install DEVICE to prevent young children from unlocking and releasing their Seat Belts when required for their personal safety and protection.
2. The device has two basic parts: The Main Ejector Frame and the Secondary Frame Ejector Holder are both separate units altogether but made of the same material. Such material must be flexible and resilient, preferably plastic which lends itself in a practical way to be produced in pressed or molded form. Any material can be used as long as the material is resiliently flexible.
3. The device has two separate parts. Part # 1 is the Main Ejector Frame and Part # 2.is the Secondary Frame Ejector Holder.
4. Part # 1 is the MAIN EJECTOR FRAME in the slώpe of an Arch to fit the contour of the Seat Belt Release Button Housing in a precise and snug fit. The Arch, which is the Body itself, is comprised of three walls. The Right Side Wall has a right finger, said finger at the bottom perpendicular to the wall. Opposite and parallet to the Right Side Wall is the Left Side Wall, also with EE CLAIM the corresponding finger at the bottom perpendicular to the wall as well. The Centre Wall serves as a Stabilizer Bar to hold and secure the device from sliding out of place when inserted into the Right Side Slot Hole of the Seat Belt Plate of the Seat Belt Harness of the passenger vehicle. The three fingers, when in place, then slide into the alloted slider grooves on Part # 2 (The Secondary Frame Ejector Holder) of the device thus engaging the locking mechanism to secure the device into place.
5. The Pressure Release Button, the very heart and mechanics of the device, located in the centre part of the body sits atop strategically atop the Seat Belt Release Button Housing of the passenger vehicle. It is designed and manufactured precisely with just the exact amount of pressure wherein a small child will not be able to press and exert enough pressure to unlock arid disengage the Pressure Release Button.
6. Part # 2 is the Secondary Frame Ejector Holder in the shape of a Flat Square Plate has three cavities on three sides correspondingly located to interact with the three fingers on the Main Ejector Frame and acts as a sliding mechanism to secure the two parts together. The Right Slider Groove Cavity is the mate for the Right Finger, the Left Slider Groove Cavity is the mate for the Left Finger, and the Centre Slider Groove is mated to the Centre Finger accordingly. When the three Slider Grooves are mated accordingly with the three Fingers, it will then secure Part if 1 and Part # 2 together into place. CLAIM .
7. In operation when desired for use, Part if 1 The Main Ejector Frame is inserted over the Seat Belt Release Button Housing of the passenger vehicle. Part if 2 The Secondary Frame Ejector Holder is situated'lunderneath the Seat Belt Latch Plate and mated together with Part if 1.
8. In as much as various changes may be made in the size and relative arrangement of the parts and the locking and engaging mechanism of the device without departing fron the scope of the present invention, it is not meant to limit the scope of the appended claims.
Description:
CHILD TAMPER-PROOF SAFETY SEAT BELT LOCKING DEVICE

DESCRIPTION

Our invention is illustrated in the accompanying sketch and explained accordingly. The device has a frame of resilient flexible material, preferably of a suitable plastic material. The device lends itself in a practical way to be produced in pressed or molded plastic material. Such material is unalterable and resistant. Any material can be used as long as the material is resiliently flexible.

The device is divided into two parts. Part # 1 is The MAIN EJECTOR FRAME (Drawing # 1) and Part # 2 is The SECONDARY FRAME EJECTOR (Drawing # 2). Part # 1, THE MAIN EJECTOR FRAME (Drawing # 1), in the shape of an ARCH, has three fingers. The Right Finger, The Left Finger, and The Middle Finger all have a simple objective. The Three Fingers are used to attach the Main Frame Ejector to Part # 2, THE SECONDARY FRAME EJECTOR HOLDER of the device. The Middle Finger which acts as a Stabilizer Bar for the whole unit when inserted into the Latch Plate Hole of the Harness Strap of the Seatbelt conversely opposite the Secondary Frame Holder when mated with the corresponding groove engages and secures the device in place to prevent movement.

The Pressure Release Button is the very centre and Heart of the Device. It REGULATES and DISENGAGES the Seat Belt Locking mechanism when pressed to release from use.

The Pressure Release Button located in the centre part of the ARCH sits atop and stradles the Seat Belt Release Button Housing of the

DESCRIPTION

passenger vehicle. The Pressure Release Button is designdd and manufactured precisely with the exact pressure wherein a small child will not be able to exert enough pressure to release it.

Part # 2, The SECONDARY FRAME EJECTOR HOLDER (Drawing # 2) in the shape of a Flat Square Plate, has three cavities conversely located oppositeϊ-.the three fingers of the Main Ejectofc Frame. The Right Cavity and the Left. Cavity, which are parallet to one another, and the Middle Cavity, which is perpendicular to both cavities, have grooves in thfe centre of all the- cavities and act as a sliding mechanism and locks the Main Ejector Frame and the Secondary Frame Ejector Holder together when in place.

The Secondary Frame Ejector Holder acts as a Base for the device and is positioned underneath the Seat Belt Plate. (Drawing # 3) When in position and in place, the device is then activated and ready for use.

Both parts are made of flexible resilient material, preferably in plastic that lends itself in a practical way to be produced in pressed or molded material. Any material can be used as long as the material is resiliently flexible.
