Abstract:
Provided is a liquid crystal alignment layer that has a compound represented by general formula (I) as a constituent (in the formula: L represents a polymerizable group; Sp1 and Sp2 represent spacer units; A01 and A02 each independently represent a 1,4-phenylene group or the like; X1, X2, Y1 and Y2 each independently represent a hydrogen atom or the like; Z is OR1 or NR1R2, with R1 and R2 each independently representing a hydrogen atom, a C1-30 straight-chain or branched alkyl group or the like; W represents -O- or -NR3-, with R3 representing a hydrogen atom, a C1-20 straight-chain or branched alkyl group, or the like; and r and t each independently represent 1 or 2).
