Description:
CLOSURE FOR A SPOUT OF A THIN-WALLED PACKAGE

DESCRIPTION

[0001]The present invention is in the field of thin-walled packages fitted with a spout, usually referred to as a "pouch". In particular, the present invention refers to a closure assembly for a spout of said package.

[0002]Said packages are primarily used to contain fruit juices, yogurt, fruit puree, energy drinks, and similar products for children. These packages have become very popular, due to their compact size, great practicality of use, and playful aspect linked to the use of the spout, which attracts the attention of children. Several hundred million units are produced and sold every year.

[0003]Typically, closures for spouts, made of plastics material, consist of a cap and a spout which are respectively threaded. The cap screws onto the spout to close the package and prevent the liquid from leaking out.

[0004]Recently, research and development efforts of manufacturing companies have focused on constructing a closure with a guarantee seal in which, even after the first opening, the cap remains attached to the guarantee ring to prevent it from being lost in the environment.

[0005]The object of the present invention is to provide a closure assembly for a spout of a thin-walled package which meets the aforementioned requirements, i.e. a closure assembly in which the cap remains linked to the guarantee ring even after the first opening and which at the same time is comfortable to use and particularly comfortable and simple to open.

[0006]This object is achieved by a closure assembly according to claim 1. The claims dependent thereon describe preferred embodiment variants involving further advantageous aspects.

[0078]This cap cam portion 35 is at least partially complementary to the spout cam portion 25.

[0079]Preferably, the cap cam portion 35 defines a lower cam surface 350, inclined with respect to the cap axis Y- Y and having an extension equal to at least a quarter of the circumference.

[0080]According to a first embodiment, the lower cam surface 350 has an arcuate shape with a lowered center so as to define two opposite slopes. Preferably, the center is lowered with respect to the cap base 32 and a first and second end are close to this cap base 32. Preferably, the cap cam portion 35 has an extension equal to half of the circumference.

[0081]In a preferred embodiment, the lower cam surface 350 has a flattened center and/or the arc does not necessarily have a constant radius.

[0082]According to a second embodiment (not shown), the lower cam surface 350 has a single inclined surface, i.e. one end is proximal with respect to the cap base 32 and one end is lowered with respect to the cap base 32.

[0083]According to a preferred embodiment, the closure 3 comprises a plurality of cap cam portions 35, preferably comprises two cap cam portions 35, diametrically opposite and arranged symmetrically with respect to the cap axis Y-Y.

[0084]According to a preferred embodiment, the cap cam portions 35 have an extension equal to half of the circumference and, in this way, the ends of one are close to the ends of the other, preferably in contact so as to form a single cap cam portion 25 in which high sections 322, proximal to the cap base 32, and low sections 324, distal to the cap base 32, alternate.

[0085]In the closed configuration (Figure 1), the cap 30 is positioned on the spout 10, the at least one cap cam portion 35 engages the at least one spout cam portion 25, and preferably the upper cam surface 250 is at least partially in contact with the lower cam surface 350. Preferably, the spout lip 28 is housed in the housing 17. [0086]In a disengagement configuration, by rotating the cap 3 with respect to the spout 10 around the cap axis Y- Y, preferably by at least a quarter turn, the interaction between the at least one cap cam portion 35 and the at least one spout cam portion 25, preferably the contact engagement between the upper cam surface 250 and the lower cam surface 350, causes an axial lifting of the cap 3 with respect to the spout 10.

[0087]By disengaging the closure 3 from the spout 10, by virtue of the rotation of the cap 30 around the cap axis Y-Y with respect to the spout 10 and to the axial lifting of the cap 30 with respect to the spout 10 due, as described above, to the interaction between the at least one spout cam portion 25 and a cap cam portion 35, the bridges 60 break, so at the end of the disengagement, the guarantee band 38 takes the form of a string 38', connected to the guarantee ring 36 by the first attachment portion 66 and to the cap wall 31, preferably at the lower edge 33, by the second attachment portion 38 (Figures 1 and 2). The closure 3, although disengaged from the spout 10, thus remains connected to the spout unit 2 (open configuration).

[0088]In other words, the axial lifting of the cap 30 with respect to the spout 10, dictated by the interaction between the cam portions 25, 35, causes the breaking of the breakable bridges 60.

[0089]In particular, by virtue of the axial lifting of the cap 30 due to the interaction between the at least one spout cam portion 25 and the cap cam portion 35, there is no interaction between the guarantee ring 36, the guarantee band 38 and the cap wall 31 during the disengagement between the cap 30 and the spout 10.

[0090]According to a preferred embodiment, the cam portions 25, 35 are such as to allow rotation of the cap 3 both in a clockwise and counter-clockwise direction. This embodiment is characterized by the presence of cam portions 25, 35, the cam surfaces 250, 350 of which have an arcuate shape comprising two opposite slopes, as described above.

[0091]Innovatively, the closure assembly forming the subject of the present invention fully achieves the proposed object whilst overcoming the drawbacks discussed above in reference to the prior art.

[0092]In particular, the closure assembly is provided with a guarantee seal and allows the cap to be kept connected to the spout unit, even after the package has been opened, and furthermore, the closure assembly is particularly comfortable to use and comfortable and simple to open.

[0093]Advantageously, the cap wall and the guarantee ring having a wavy circumferential development act as a guide during the opening (also the guarantee band) and closing operations.

[0094]Advantageously, the wavy circumferential development of the cap wall, of the guarantee band and of the guarantee ring allows the user to achieve an adequate degree of closure of the cap on the spout so as to avoid any liquid loss. In fact, it is visibly intuitive when a correct closing configuration has been reached since a ridge of the guarantee band is positioned in a hollow of the cap wall, and vice versa.

[0095]It is clear that those skilled in the art may, in order to meet specific needs, make several changes or substitutions of elements with other functionally equivalent ones. These variants are also contained within the scope of protection as defined by the following claims. Moreover, each variant described as belonging to a possible embodiment may be implemented independently of the other variants described.
