Abstract:
The present invention discloses cluster compounds containing Mn3SrO4 and Mn4SrO4 core structures, a preparation method thereof, and an application for the same. The present inventor discovered that Mn3SrO4 clusters can be synthesized in a single step from raw materials consisting of simple and inexpensive Mn2+ and Sr2+ inorganic compounds and carboxylic acids, using permanganate anions as an oxidant. This step is followed by the synthesis of asymmetric biomimetic water splitting catalyst Mn4SrO4 clusters in the presence of water. The Mn4SrO4 clusters can catalyse the splitting of water in the presence of an oxidant to release oxygen gas. The neutral [Mn3SrO4](R1CO2)6(R1CO2H)3 clusters obtained in the present invention serve as precursors for the synthesis of the biomimetic water splitting catalyst, and can be utilized in the synthesis of different types of biomimetic water splitting catalysts. [Mn4SrO4](R1CO2)8(L1)(L2)(L3)(L4) clusters can serve as artificial water splitting catalysts, utilized on the surface of an electrode or in catalysed splitting of water driven by an oxidant (this may be a stable oxidant or alternatively a photoinduced transient oxidant). No reports in the literature on such Mn3SrO4 clusters or Mn4SrO4 biomimetic water splitting catalysts have so far been seen.
