Abstract:
Provided is a compact clutch capable of quickly switching between the transmission and the interruption of unidirectional rotational power, and of reducing shocks during transmission. The clutch (1) has a load device (10) that applies a load to the sprag (4) counter to the biasing force exerted by a ribbon spring (6) to tilt the sprag (4) into a non-self locking position, where the engagement of the sprag (4) and the inner ring (2) and outer ring (3) is released and the inner (2) and the outer ring (3) are allowed to rotate relative to one another in both directions. Switching between the transmission and the interruption of unidirectional rotational power can be more quickly achieved by tilting the sprag (4) than by moving the sprag (4). Because it is possible to switch quickly, the inner ring (2) and the outer ring (3) do not rotate idly over the interval between the state in which the rotational power is interrupted and the transmission of the rotational power, and it is possible to prevent shocks when transmitting rotational power.
