Title:
CO-CULTURING DEVICE, MOTOR NEURON CULTURING DEVICE, MULTI-WELL PLATE, METHOD FOR MAKING IN VITRO ASSESSMENT MODEL FOR NEUROMUSCULAR DISEASE, AND SCREENING METHOD FOR THERAPEUTIC DRUG FOR NEUROMUSCULAR DISEASE
Document Type and Number:
WIPO Patent Application WO/2020/171052
Kind Code:
A1
Abstract:
The present invention addresses the problem of providing a co-culturing device for motor neurons and skeletal muscle cells that does not use collagen gel as scaffolding. The problem can be solved by a device including a first unit for forming skeletal muscle tissue, a second unit for culturing motor neurons, a third unit for communicating between the first unit and the second unit, and a pillar that serves as scaffolding for the formation of skeletal muscle tissue, in which: the first unit includes a first substrate and a first culture vessel formed in the first substrate; the second unit includes a second substrate and a second culture vessel formed in the second substrate; the third unit includes a third substrate and an axon channel which is formed in the third substrate and through which a bundle of axons passes; one end portion of the third unit can be coupled to the second unit; when the one end portion of the third unit has been coupled to the second unit, communication is possible between the axon channel and the second culture vessel; a first opening section is formed in another end portion of the third unit so as to adjoin the axon channel; at least one first axon passage hole is formed in the first opening section; the first axon passage hole is of a size such that cell bodies of motor neurons and skeletal muscle cells cannot pass through but axons can; and at least a part of the pillar can be disposed within the first culture vessel.
