Abstract:

　Provided is a coated cutting tool having better wear resistance, chipping resistance, and defect resistance than conventional tools. This coated cutting tool is provided with a base material and a coating layer formed on the surface of the base material. The coating layer includes an outermost layer. The outermost layer includes NbN. The NbN includes cubic NbN and hexagonal NbN. In X-ray diffraction analysis, where the peak intensity of the (200) plane of the cubic NbN is denoted by Ic, the peak intensity of the (101) plane of the hexagonal NbN is denoted by Ih1, and the sum of the peak intensities of the (103) plane and the (110) plane of the hexagonal NbN is denoted by Ih2, the ratio of Ih1 to the sum of Ic and Ih1 [Ih1/(Ih1 + Ic] is from 0.5 to less than 1.0, and the ratio of Ih1 to the sum of Ih1 and Ih2, [Ih1/(Ih1 + Ih2] is 0.5-1.0.
