A coating device comprising: a first roll (4) capable of having a coating fluid adhere thereto; a first scraping means (7) that scrapes the coating fluid from the first roll (4) surface; a second roll (5) that rotates in the opposite direction to the rotation direction of the first roll (4) and transfers coating fluid that has transferred from the first roll (4) surface, to a steel strip (1); and a second scraping means (8) that scraps the coating fluid from the second roll (5). The first scraping means (7) is arranged at the uppermost section of the first roll (4) or further upstream along the rotation direction of the first roll (4) than the uppermost section and further upstream along the rotation direction of the first roll (4) than the position of contact with the second roll (5). The second scraping means (8) is arranged at the uppermost section of the second roll (5) or further downstream along the rotation direction of the second roll (5) than the uppermost section and further upstream along the rotation direction of the second roll (5) than the position of contact with the first roll (4). As a result of this configuration, production efficiency can be improved and uniform coating of the surface of the steel strip is possible, when continuously coating a coating fluid on to a steel strip in a prescribed pattern.
