A coil device can be used in a magnetic field generator for thermotherapy performed by exposing a patient to a magnetic flux and selectively heating only a specific portion of the patient. The coil device of pan type has a current path extending spirally in substantially the same place. The current path comprises a hollow tubular member (10) having a space defined inside and made of a non-magnetic material and conductors (11, 12) the peripheries of which are coated with an insulating material. In this invention, since the current path is formed of conductors coated with an insulating material and arranged circularly, the energy loss due to the skin effect and the energy loss due to the line capacitance can be reduced and a strong magnetic field can be produced. Since the hollow tubular member (10) is used, a current path of a predetermined diameter can be easily formed, the temperature rise of the coil (3) is suppressed, and variation of the resonance frequency of a resonance circuit can be prevented. As a result, a magnetic field generator preferable to thermotherapy especially for cancer treatment can be realized
