The present invention relates to a production method for a coil spring such as a compression coil spring or tension coil spring, and provides a coil spring production method comprising the steps of: preparing a bar member of a spring-steel material; drilling the centre of the bar member in the length direction thereof; and forming a coil piece by spirally cutting the outer surface of the bar member, as far as the drilled part in the centre thereof. The present invention makes it possible to produce an ultrafine coil spring having relatively very high rigidity and durability as compared with the specifications of conventional coil springs. In addition, the present invention makes it possible to produce a specialist shaped coil spring in which: a coil piece is formed in the middle of a bar member, and the two ends of the coil piece are given a structure forming a cylindrical straight-line section, such that the coil piece is partially formed in the body of the coil spring, while no coil piece is formed in the remaining portion. Further, the present invention also makes it possible to produce a specialist shaped coil spring in which a concave structure or a convex structure is formed in the outer circumferential surface thereof, with a curved section of differing outer diameters being formed, and with a coil piece being formed in the curved section.
