Abstract:

In order to make it possible to design a coil spring more advantageously while providing a more excellent stress dispersion state, the coil spring (1) composed of a spring strand (3) which is wound into a coil shape and which has a circular basic shape of an outer periphery in a cross section is provided with flat surfaces (9, 11) which are provided between inner and outer diameter side portions (5, 7) of the outer peripheral shape of the spring strand (3) in a cross section and on which the coil portions adjacent to each other in a direction of the coil axis (4) abut and can be stabilized. With regard to the outer peripheral shape with the flat surfaces (9, 11) in a cross section, the oblateness (T/W) in the coil axial direction is set so as to provide a stress ratio equal to or less than a stress ratio of a coil spring having a circuit basic shape of an outer periphery in a cross section. Thus, a load can be stably received by the flat surfaces (9, 11) in a tight contact state, the tight contact length can be further shortened, a spring having a longer stroke and a low rigidity can be more advantageously designed, and the uniformity of the stress distribution can be further enhanced by a more excellent stress dispersion in the circumferential direction of the outer peripheral shape in a cross section.
