Abstract:
Provided is a coil spring formed by winding a wire (51) in a coil shape. The cross-sectional shape of the wire (51) formed in the coil shape is configured such that the inner diameter-side portion of the wire (51) wound in the coil shape includes a semi-elliptical section (51a) having a major radius (a) and a minor radius (b) and such that the outer diameter-side portion of the wire (51) wound in the coil shape includes: a curved section (51c) circumscribed about a circle which is the circumcircle (51out) and has a radius (c) greater than the minor radius (b); arc-like sections (51d) having a greater curvature than the circumcircle (51out); and rectilinear sections for connecting ends of the arc-like sections (51d) and ends of the semi-elliptical section (51a). As a result of this configuration, the cross-sectional shape of the wire (51) can be enlarged, shear stress can be reduced, and the durability of the coil spring can be improved.
